How to Provide Resources to Clients/Members using your Wix Website

Have you ever wanted to offer freebies, guides, or exclusive content to your clients or members without just handing them out to anyone who stumbles across your site, this one's for you.

It's a common situation I've worked through with clients. There are actually several ways you can do it, which will depend on what you're needing to achieve.

Below, I've broken down your options for how to control who can access your resources and where those resources live, so you can mix and match to find the right fit.

How to Control Access

1. Member's Area

Visitors create a login, which you can approve before they get access (or turn on auto-accept). This is a great option if you want to build a mailing list or simply know exactly who's engaging with your content, since every new member is someone you've approved and can follow up with.

Tip: make sure you have their permission prior to adding them to your mailing list.

2. Password-Protected Page

This is the simplest option. You can create a page that's either "unlisted" (only accessible if you share the direct link) or linked from a button or menu item. The trade-off is that you won't know who's actually accessing the resources — there's no login or tracking involved.

3. A "Course" Priced at $0

Wix lets you set up your resources as a course and price it at zero dollars. This might sound unusual, but it comes with a real benefit: you can see exactly who's accessing your files, similar to the member's area option, without needing to build a separate login system.

Where to Store Your Resources

1. Hosted Directly in Wix

Files can be uploaded straight to your Wix site and made available with the click of a button or link. Keep in mind the file type needs to be PDF, and you may have size limits depending on your Wix subscription level.

2. External Storage (like Google Drive)

You can store your files in an external service such as Google Drive and simply link or button your way to them from your site. The benefit of this is that you can share/link to whole folders with resources relating to a single topic).

Tip: Just be sure to share with view-only access, not edit access, so your original files stay safe.

3. A Dedicated Content Page

Instead of a downloadable file, you could create a page for each topic — formatted like a blog post. This gives you the added bonus of tags and a search function, making your content easier to browse. The one catch is that visitors can't truly "download" it unless they use their browser's print-to-PDF function.

Putting It Together

None of these setups are difficult to implement, and they can be combined depending on your goals — for example, pairing a member's area with Google Drive storage, or a password-protected page with content hosted directly on Wix.
